Working across furniture and industrial design, and sculpture and jewellery, each piece Christian Hall makes is designed to inspire a moment of delight.  His meticulous designs focus not only on form, but on physicality, resulting in sculptural objects which seamlessly combine hand-crafting skills with a sleek industrial-looking finish. 

Graduating from Sydney College of the Arts in 1998 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, First Class Honours, Hall began his career in jewellery and object design.  Going onto complete his Masters in Visual Arts in 2003, Hall has been the creative director at JamFactory Jewellery & Metal Design Studio since 2009.  An accomplished teacher and maker, Hall has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally, in addition to being the recipient of numerous awards and grants.

Mesh Room Divider was born from a commission by a local shared space in Kent Town, Adelaide which hosts a cafe, gallery and design studio, to find a solution to separate the cafe and the design studio, without losing the sense of open space. In the original design Hall used repurposed rebar) to create a floating room divider. In this new version Hall opted for a powder coated mild steel, instead of rebar, while also changing the grid subtly, to diamond shaped pattern, forming a slightly softer aesthetic.

The jewellery making process combines laser cutting and micro-welding with more traditional hand-making techniques and elements of play-like construction. Each unit is made from the same two, flat, interlocking components that are snapped together by hand to sit at right angles to each other. These singular, wire frame structures create a description of three-dimensional space that when multiplied produce works that explore an ambiguity between line and volume.
